Beginnings ( the start of anew piece and a new job)

This week is the beginning of a new job. I start work again after 4 years of being a stay at home mom. The job is not in my field nor is it glamorous but those things may be good. I am hoping to be able to work on my art and possibly sell much of it in the coming months. I am thinking that because the job is not in my field I will not be too burned out at the end of the day to work on art. As far as it not being glamorous, I have never been one for  glamorous employment. I would much prefer to have a job I can learn quickly and then be able to enjoy it as much as one can enjoy any work situation. The above does not apply to taking  a position in the field of art. That I am more willing to go all out for. :)

Yesterday my husband and I  took our daughter to The Boston Aquarium. We had such a nice day. It was a beautiful sunny day out of sooo many rainy ones that we have been having recently. 

There is a new water fountain that kids can play in across the street. I think Em may have liked that more than the fish. She went in with only her undies on hee hee. Made me feel so warm seeing her have so much fun. After doing the aquarium and the water fountain we took the T back to davis Sqaure and had dinner at a favorite new restaurant. Then walked over to J.P. licks for ice cream sundays. It could not have been more perfect!

To ebay or not to ebay

Lately I have been thinking about selling on both Etsy and Ebay. With the holidays coming it may be a good way to make a few extra dollars. The thing is I have heard some things about ebay that I don't want to deal with.  If any one wants to leave a comment about their experiences I'd love to hear from you.

Bed time stories I tell my daughter

I like to make up funny stories and characters for my daughter at bedtime.

My most recent is an adaption of  The lion and the mouse. This is how I tell it.

Once upon a time there was a very tiny, very small, girl .

She was so small and tiny that no one remembered her real name because since the day she was born everyone she knew called her Popcorn girl.

There came a day Popcorn girl was walking in the woods when along came a hungry crow. Crows love popcorn, he flew down and was just about to eat Popcorn girl when she said please stop, in the loudest voice she could muster. The crow turned his head and looked around a bit startled and then realized that it was the piece of popcorn he was about to eat that was talking to him. "Caw!"  he said to popcorn girl, "you should stop talking. Popcorn is not suppose to talk" . Popcorn girl replied "I am not a piece of popcorn Mr. Crow. I am a very small and tiny girl. Please do not eat me. There may come a day where you may be in need of help and if you call my name I will come and help you". Well the crow  thought this was very, very funny. He laughed and laughed. When he finally stopped and caught his breath he said " All right little popcorn girl I will not eat you today. Though I do not think that such a small and tiny being will ever be able to help me. He went on his way. 

Many years later ( Popcorn girl now older but still very small and tiny ) was out collecting flowers in a meadow for her wedding. All of a sudden she heard a terrible sound. Caaaaaaw!, Caaaaaw! Oh no she immediately thought someone is in trouble and she ran quickly towards the sound. It was the same crow that had let her go many years ago. He had tangled himself up in some string and was unable to get free of it. When he saw popcorn girl he looked at her with tears in his eyes. He said " Oh Popcorn girl I have been tangled in this thread for two nights and a day" I am hungry and thirsty and fear that if I do not get free soon I will surely die." Popcorn girl told Mr. Crow not to worry. She would hold true to her promise and free him. Well the string was in quiet a tangle but popcorn girl had very tiny, small and dainty fingers that were quick and nimble. She untied the string and freed Mr. Crow. Just as she had promised.

Many days and many nights later the two remain friends. Mr. Crow made sure to never again judge a person by his or her size.

Baba Yaga's house

I made this piece awhile ago. In it is a photo I took of the most perfect story book picture house. Its located in Shirley Ma. The man who had it built has two of these houses. I have only seen the one. All I could think when  first saw it was I need to use that house somehow. This is what I came up with.

yawn.... Good morning?

Started with my daughter screaming because she had to take a shower. I don't mean just a little crying either. I mean full out from the bowls of Hell screaming! 

Somehow my husband got her to get in and after a few minutes the devil evacuated and she started having fun in the tub.

O.k. its getting to be that time of year when all I want is a candy apple. I bought some of these awhile ago for Farther's day for my daughter to give to her dad. We cut up 1 a night to share amongst the 3 of us. They were as good as they look. Better actually.

Artist block

Guardians of the life tree

Sigh.... I have a case of artist block. I have had it for a few days and its making me crazy. 

I feel something cooking in my imagination but its not ready to be born. The labor pain for this one has been long and a little stressful. I have an itch to paint with acrylics again too. I think I am going to have to scratch the itch to get rid of the artist block. I keep putting it off because painting means making a mess in the living room and having to clean up after I paint. Oh how I long for studio space! Somewhere I can make a mess and not have to clean up after finishing for the day.

Hunting for work...

is like hunting for a needle in a hay stack right now. I have applied to numerous design positions and also a few non art related jobs. So far I am batting zero. 

Yesterday I met with the owners of a new cafe in Harvard sq. The place was a little larger than places I have worked in the past. It seemed a little too fast paced for me as well. 

On my way to the interview I stopped in at a cafe closer to home and they said they are hiring and to come bak today and try to talk to the manager. I think it would be a better fit for me there. Also the staff seemed really friendly. So today its off to another Cafe!

we just adopted two boys!

Charlie is our brand new baby boy puppy he's  8 weeks old. Right now he sleeps during the day and plays at night just like a human baby. Max is our also 8 week old baby kitten. He was a bit timid at first but seems to be coming out of his shell now. I apologize for the poor picture quality. Hopefully I can get some better shots up soon.

I can't wait!

Snips and snails

I will be working with boys as my new subjects. I have never done this. All my art usually deals with girls. I am excited about this venture into the land of snips and snails. I am in the midst of the first boy themed image and I am really happy with how it is turning out. I will post it soon.

A Toast to technically abled husbands!!!

I have not been able to post anything new here in days because 1. my computer died last Wednesday and 2. I could not figure out how to log back in to this blog. 

My awesome husband fixed both problems for me!!! 

So a toast to all those technically inclined husbands and for that matter wives, boyfriends , platonic friends, to all those technically inclined  a huge thank you!

What I have been up to

Arn't they cute! I am so pleased with them. 

O.k. right now I am  terrible blogger. I am trying to find time to do many things in a short time span on a daily basis right now. So I hope you will forgive my at times sparse posting. I am sure my head will organize itself in time and I will post less sporadically, but for now I am just trying to keep up.

 

Heres some cool news. Oh my life is about etsy right now so most posts will be related to etsy related topics. Back to the cool news. 

I was invited by a college professor from Montserrat college of art  to speak to her class about my art. I am quite flattered that someone would ask me to do so. It would not be until this coming fall. I will post more on it when it happens.

I made 3 sales over the weekend. Two were fairly large. So Yay! I am excited about that.

Yesterday I spent the day trying to promote my shop. I sent the editor of Better Homes and Gardens an email  and I looked all over for the email address of Martha Stewart's Living but to no avail. So I sent one of their blog sites an email instead.  I have to try right? 

My efforts tonight will be put into creating a new image to list. Though I have been saying that for 2 days and have not gotten very far. Tonight it will happen. At least I will create more than just a blank page.

The round images above are designs I am thinking of making pin back buttons with. I need to find the most affordable way to do so. That is also on my to do list for this week.
